Design Your Bathroom

so you know those boxed sink w/ vanitie that the lowes and Home depot sells. Most of the standard ones are either white or a light oak.

Has anyone ever painted or stained the oak one a different color to match their bathroom a little better. Like a darker cherry vs. the light oak that you buy it as ?

Was wondering if this could be done, or a good idea, would I have to prime it first, I mean it is wood, it should be able to absorb and accept a good quality wood stain, right ?

I’m refinishing rather than buying a new bathroom vanity. One problem however is that the wood surface at the bottom of the vanity, (inside the cabinet, where you would normally store chemicals, toilet paper, etc) is warped and badly bowed into the center. I wanted to just cut and apply another thin piece right over it, shimming it or whatever else to level it but my question is, what should I coat it with to keep any future dripping from damaging it again?

We have a nook between a wall and linen closet in our new bathroom where the bathroom vanity and sink will go. Problem is it’s 41.5 inches wide. Only standard vanities are 40″ - are we forced to get custom cut counters? Otherwise what do we do with this space between the walls?
